Written by Alex Bonilla We recently cleaned up and added background to characters that Alex shot against the green screen. His characters are very creative and fun. Given the chance to take the characters from their positions and putting them in the setting that fit what they were doing was a lot of fun to do. Everyone is always professional, a joy to be around, and full of the kind of enthusiasm you only find around people devoted to the art-form of living dreams. I'm always looking forward to the next opportunity to do fight choreography with the talent.
Please check out my trailer at TEASER TRAILER FIGHTERS TWITCH and stay tuned for my web series THE WAY, FIGHTER TWITCH coming soon. Shiverlique is one of my first characters in my Antioch project. Later on, I will explain how the name Shiverlique came about. With a comic book convention coming this November to Orlando, FL, I want to show off my characters there. One of my characters in particular is Shiverlique. I wanted Shiverlique to be special so I went to look for a model to model her. As luck would have it, a model had an ad on Craigslist wanting to do different projects. I answered her ad and we met. Her name? Tatiana Karmanova. She's a Russian model and, at the time, she was a perfect fit. She knew acting as well as makeup and had an outfit, but the only thing that was missing was the name of my character. I told her she was modeling an ice queen so ... the character is made of ice. She gave me a suggestion to look up everything with the word cold, as she will come up with something on her end. There were, during my research, plenty of words related to cold. One word that stood out to me was the word shiver. The definition for that word is: to shake slightly and uncontrollably as a result of being cold. The word 'shiver' was different and I liked it for the name for my character. I contacted Tatiana and told her I came up with the word shiver. She liked it, but said it was missing something to make the character stand out. She told me about the actress Angelina Jolie sometimes was called Angelique. If we use the 'lique' part and combined it with the word shiver ... we will have the perfect name for the character. Henceforth, Shiverlique was born. Sadly, though, Tatiana Karmanova is no longer with our organization. I wanted to give Shiverlique some more exposure in addition to the video and pictures I posted on my website. I wanted Shiverlique to make appearances at some comic book conventions, but I would need a new model since Tatiana was gone. I went on model mayhem to look for her replacement. It was going to be difficult, but I had to try. After viewing and reading a few profiles, I came across one that stood out. Her name? Anna Gibbs. After seeing her pics and reading her profile, I wanted her to model Shiverlique. I immediately sent her an email and waited for her to response. A few days later she sent word and we set up a meeting to talk. Our meeting was a success. Not only was she beautiful, she was also very creative. She came up with a different look for Shiverlique to bring out more of her beauty. I liked what she came up with and, subsequently, made her debut as the "new look" Shiverlique at the Comic Expo in Orlando, Fl and later on at Megacon. All good things must come to an end, as before with Tatiana, Anna moved on to new things and I am very thankful for what she did for the Shiverlique character and for taking this job so seriously. On Nov 9, 2014, there will be another comic book convention called Superhero Toy & Comic Con coming to Orlando, Fl and there, Lisa Hale, will be making her debut as Shiverlique. Stay tuned to see her modifications to the Shiverlique character. And don't forget to catch her appearance at Megacon next year on April 12, 2015. ~ Alex
When I started working on my Antioch comic book, I had someone told me this was a long shot. After that person’s comment, I set to prove him wrong. My website, Hall of Comics, was created. I linked my website to all social media from Facebook to Instagram. I created a mission statement “Bringing the superhero in you to life.” I hired models to model my characters and to make appearances at comic book conventions as well as a make up artist, a photographer, graphic artist etc. Everyone was doing this as a trade for service where everyone benefits. You would think everything would run smoothly but sometimes it doesn’t happen.
Recently, I was feeling and saying to myself “What did I get to myself into?” To the point, I was thinking about cancelling this project. Something that I found made me change my mind. It was a paper that I wrote when I was in college. I began to read it. The first sentence “The little engine with his load started to go up the hill and said ‘I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.’ When he reached the top of the hill, he started to go down the hill and said “I know I can, I know I can, I know I can.” I kept on reading the next example of the tortoise and the hare where the tortoise challenged the arrogant hare. The hare was way ahead of the tortoise so he decided to take a nap while the tortoise kept on going and went on to win the race. Here is the part of my paper that really hit me where on 2/6/1990; Iron Mike Tyson took on an unknown Buster Douglas. Buster Douglas was a 46 to 1 underdog but he went in the ring with the then unstoppable Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson was able to knock down the challenger but he came back up. He kept on coming at Mike Tyson, throwing punches and not giving up until the unthinkable happened, Buster Douglas knock out Mike Tyson in the 10th round to become the new heavyweight champion of the world. You might ask, what is the point of this or what do they have in common. They were all underdogs and despite the odds against them, they overcame those odds and went on to do the impossible. No matter what the odds are or what challenges you will face, never give up on your dreams. Defeat is not an option. Surrender is not an option. Nothing is over until it is over. Always remember that when you have a desire to quit. Let me know what you think and until next time. ~ Alex |
